Sugar Cookies

When I moved away from home, I tried several sugar cookie recipes.  None of them were "right", so this is the one my mom always made. It is from an old Better Homes and Garden cookbook. I always double the batch.

Sugar Cookies

2/3 c. shortening
¾ c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
4 tsp. milk
2 c. flour
1 ½ tsp. baking powder
¼ tsp. salt

Mix together. Divide dough, chill 1 hour, roll and cut. Bake on greased cookie sheet at 375 for 6- 8 min. Notes: Dough is manageable without the chilling step. Frost with a powdered sugar frosting. Makes about 2 doz.
